IIHF Head Fassel Gives ‘Qualified Endorsement’ of Future World Cups

IIHF president Rene Fassel endorsed future World Cups (including ‘ours’ in Bratislava and Kosice), as long as playes were not “overtaxed” with too many games, the IIHF site reported. Fassel was interviewed by CBC’s Jim Hughson during the World Hockey Summit in Toronto on August 24, 2010.

He also spoke of the importance of 2014 participation of NHL players in the Olympics in Sochi and rejected the idea of a European NHL division. Instead he proposed “a European league with European champions, who would then play the Stanley Cup winner. For the hockey fans, that would be music.”
