Slovak Hockey Boss Legalizes Hotel Without Permit for 2011 IIHF Championship

Construction authority of the Bratislava city part Nove Mesto issued a fine for the newly built hotel and press center next to the Ondrej Nepela Arena, where the 2011 World Ice Hockey Championship will be played, Slovak daily Sme reported.

Tehelne pole, a.s., company part-owned by the city of Bratislava is linked to the head of the Slovak Ice Hockey Federation Juraj Siroky. His construction firm Vahostav-SK began building the hotel at the site of the stadium without required permits. After the Slovak media reported this in March 2010, the company asked for the permits to be issued.

Officials refused to disclose the amount of the fine. The 12-floor hotel is scheduled for completion in February 2012.
